Neanderthal
NEANDERTHAL
is an active learning experience
built on the foundation of the popular
Cave Works Program. Student
groups participating in NEANDERTHAL
will discover, identify and learn the
characteristics of man's historic and
prehistoric relationships with
caves. Students will use
lanterns to explore a non-toured
portion of Fantastic Caverns where
they'll have the opportunity to
discover "ancient" cave art,
work with natural pigments and uncover
evidence of man's use of caves. NEANDERTHAL
is available only during January,
February and March. This
special, 90-minute program includes
the all-riding educational cave tour
and takes place entirely inside the
cavern's Underground Classroom where
it's always a WARM 60 DEGREES. NEANDERTHAL
is recommended for grades 1 and
up.
Mastodons!
something
old, something new ....
The 2007 MASTODONS!
Program
is designed with children's
groups, scouting groups and
summer school in mind.
Participating students will ply their
skills on a simulated paleontology
dig, carefully cleaning away debris
and soil in search of prehistoric
animal remains, then exploring a
Mastodon track-way to sharpen math
skills estimating the animal's size,
gait and weight. They'll even
have a chance to try early mastodon
hunting methods! This unique,
specialty program takes place at the
Outdoor Classroom located near the
cavern entrance. The 90-minute
program includes the all-riding tour
through the caverns.
MASTODONS! is
available from June 1 through November
21.
